Chaselea Alternative Provision Academy (CAPA) is a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and therefore is not required and does not deliver the full national curriculum.
At CAPA we believe in providing a wide range of enrichment opportunities to allow all students to experience a wide and diverse learning experience. Many students who attend CAPA have struggled to access, or were denied access, the arts subjects in their mainstream settings, often lacking confidence in these areas.
Music within CAPA’s wider curriculum:
- Met with Entrust Music Service to plan how CAPA can access resources/workshops with groups of pupils. Awaiting information about the ‘Capital Instrument Grant’ to purchase instruments.
- Fast-track GCSE Music led by CAPA’s qualified music teacher during intervention sessions. (2 candidates entered and passed in June 2024 examination series, one of whom is studying Music Technology for their post-16 choices)
- AQA Unit Award Scheme offered where appropriate or requested.
- 1-1 bespoke peripatetic and therapeutic sessions delivered by CAPA’s qualified music teacher and a staff member who is a community musician. For example, electric guitar tuition last academic year to encourage a school refuser to attend, and gospel keyboard tuition/enrichment as part of SEMH interventions.
- ELSA-trained staff member delivers emotional regulation support using musical instruments.
- Every pupil on-site accesses a daily enrichment activity including the opportunity for musical instrument tuition, music technology, performance, song writing etc…, if they would like.
- Community projects involving music. For example, BeatsaBar recording studio that every teaching group accessed last academic year.
