CAPA Admissions Expectations
All Pupil Referral Units within Manor Hall Trust meet the needs of some of our most vulnerable children. We have a responsibility to get transition right for these children and expect the following elements to be in place before we can safely and effectively admit children to our schools.
We expect to work with families, the Local Authority, services and schools to ensure that students are admitted swiftly, and to meet the Local Authority’s statutory obligation to meet day 6 provision. However, if a full and comprehensive risk assessment cannot be put in place due to missing information there may be a delay in admission.
PRU admission expectations
What needs to be in place for the school to admit a student?
- Fully completed BSP (Cheshire East)/Notification of permanent exclusion (Staffordshire) referral forms
- Safeguarding files/discussion to produce a full risk assessment
- Induction meeting with student/carer/supporting professionals
- Emergency contact details for carers/parents
- Access to a link professional from the previous/referring school to support smooth transition
What families need to do?
- Attend a transition meeting and share relevant information and sufficient contact details for emergencies
What the Local Authority and Services need to do?
- Ensure that up to date information from children’s social care or other LA teams is shared to inform the risk assessment and support plan
- Follow up any BSP1 forms/ Notification of permanent exclusion form (Staffordshire) that is incomplete or missing
- Support facilitation of multiagency meeting in complex cases and support specialised risk assessments
- Arrange timely and suitable school transport
Should any of the above not be in place then admission to the PRU may be delayed beyond day 6, until all stakeholders are satisfied that there are no undue health and safety risks to students or staff.
Pupils are referred to us through the Admission Pathway to a Staffordshire Short Stay School/Pupil Referral Unit (PRU).
There are 5 categories of pupils who are eligible for admission to a Staffordshire PRU.
- Main/Single Roll
- Permanent Exclusion
- Exceptional Admission
- Dual/Subsidiary Roll
- Pupil at Risk
- Medical Condition
- Support as part of a Managed Move

If your child is offered a place at Chaselea an admission meeting will quickly be arranged for you by the school. During this meeting we will discuss your child’s needs and how we can work with you to ensure the best possible educational outcomes for them. You will be given a tour of the school site and be asked to fill in a small amount of paperwork. Please bring along any paperwork or information you think would be helpful including behaviour plans, diagnosis information, EHCP etc
We also request you give us 2 emergency contact details for yourself and anyone else with Parental Responsibility for your child.
After this meeting, your child will be invited in for two hour sessions in the afternoon where they can complete their initial assessments, have another look round the school and meet some of the key staff. A start date will then be arranged for your child depending on the transport requirements.
